FAQ

Stride Tutors are required to be state certified teachers and are located across the U.S. They are currently employed by Stride and teach for one of our many Stride K12-powered online schools. In 2023, certified teachers who work for other schools will be eligible to tutor, too. To be certified, a teacher usually must achieve a bachelor's degree or higher, complete a stateapproved teacher preparation program, complete a student teaching experience, and pass a series of exams. Each state has their own certification requirements.

If a tutor is multi-lingual, they will indicate their languages in their profile.

Students can find a comfortable,quiet spot to conduct the session,then use the link to see and speak with the tutor at the scheduled time.

On the tutor’s profile, you can schedule a session by selecting an open spot on their calendar. After the tutor confirms the session, you will find an area in your dashboard for upcoming sessions where you can join the session. In addtion you will have a messaging area where you can send questions and upload materials in advance of your session.

All you need is a laptop or desktop, a wireless internet connection, and a front-facing camera. Phones will work, too, but it may be difficult to see visuals or workspaces that the tutor may provide. 

You should expect an interactive, face-to-face discussion with your tutor, including time to work through lessons or problems. Your tutor will provide a summary of the session and directions for recommended next steps. You will be able to provide feedback on the tutor and session, too. 

Yes! Unlike other platforms where you may be automatically assigned to a random tutor or, Stride Tutoring allows you to book as many sessions as you’d like with your favorite tutors. 

Tutors will record each session. If you’d like to review your session, please ask the tutor for a link to the recording.

Yes. All tutors are state-certified and have completed a background check. Stride will not share any of your personal information.

Only tutors with whom you have booked a session will be able to see your profile information.

Students and their guardians will be able to see the quiz results. It will also appear on the student's profile so tutors will be able to adjust you book sessions with will be able to adjust their sessions to adapt to the student's learning style.

This account is a way for a parent or guardian to access and help manage the account. Guardians do not create the student profile but can book sessions, review progress, and communicate with the tutor through their account. 

Yes. If you cancel a session outside of the 12-hour window prior to your session, you will be fully refunded. If you cancel within 12 hours, you will be charged for the session. Either way, please be sure to cancel so your tutor can plan to use the time otherwise. 

Stride Tutoring accepts all major credit cards. Your card will be charged when you schedule a tutoring session. 

Booking recurring sessions is not available automatically at this time, but we expect to enable this feature in the future. You may go ahead and book multiple sessions with your favorite tutor now. 

No. You are not obligated to have multiple sessions with the same tutor. You can search tutor profiles and select another tutor for your next session.

You are qualified to tutor if you:

  • You are employed full-time by Stride, Inc.* 
  • Currently reside in the US.
  • Have a valid Social Security number.
  •  Are eligible to work in the US.
  •  Have a state issued certification.
  •  Possess strong oral and written communication skills with fluency in the English language.

*In spring 2023, certified teachers who work for other schools will become eligible to tutor.

 It is important to Stride that qualified tutors receive competitive compensation for their skills. Students are charged $65/hour, the majority of which will be earned by the tutor. There is no start-up fee, and tutors will have opportunities to earn more over time. To learn more about compensation, please create an account and complete the application form.

 We know life can get hectic. Since you have control of your schedule, you can commit to providing as much or as little tutoring as your time allows. There is no minimum number of hours Stride requires you to work. You can be as active as you would like.

  • Connect online with students of all ages to provide help with specific subjects and related coursework.
  •  Expand students’ knowledge of the topics they bring to tutoring sessions.
  •  Build students’ confidence in learning challenging concepts.
  •  Use tools such as voice, chat, and video to aid in the teaching of students.
  •  Provide feedback for the session so students have a jumping-off point after the lesson ends.
  •  Review pre-session documents and questions so you can provide the best experience for your students .

  • Stride Tutoring allows you to create a schedule that fits your needs. Our service is always available, so you can set a schedule that will work best for you.
  • Create a schedule each week or reuse the same schedule until a specified date.
  • If you need to block out a day you usually work, you can block out as much time as you like.

  • Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, OS X 10.8 or more recent
  • 4.0 GB of system memory (RAM) or greater (we recommend 8 GB)
  • Processor (CPU) running at 1.8 GHz or higher (we recommend 2.4 GHz)
  • Internet service (Cable, DSL, Fiber, etc.)
  • The minimum Internet connection speed of 15 Mbps down, 5 Mbps up
  • Headset or speakers/microphone for use with our software's voice feature Webcam or integrated camera for use with our software's video feature.

Yes, each session will be recorded via the videoconferencing tool provided.

For the pilot, you will be paid for that session if a student cancels. Beyond the pilot:

  •  If a student cancels before the 12-hour window prior to the session, the session will be cancelled with no charge to them.
  •  If they cancel within the 12-hour window prior to a session, they will be charged, and you will be paid for that session.

Yes, you can cancel at any time, but we strongly encourage you to cancel at least 12 hours in advance if possible.
